Great Show at Cheers

Hi yall, I got this letter from the guys at Cheers in Kissimmee where I played saturday June 20. I think it's very touching that they have asked me to be on their "Drinking Team" in light of the fact that i just celebrated my 3 year anniversary of sobriety. anyway I am honored and I happily accept! I will were the t shirt proudly. I understand you don't actually have to drink alcohol to be on the "Drinking team", but i hope Diet Coke qualifies! (with a cherry and an umbrella)
My name is Jim Wilkinson, I work for Steve Smith at Cheers Bar in Kissimmee. I gave you the Cheers Drinking Team Shirt. I just wanted to drop you a note to say how much we enjoyed having you at Cheers. Your show was awesome. We are planning a fishing trip for our drinking team members in August and you are certainly welcome to join us if you have the time...I'll send you another email. Thank you again for everything. I hope that you can come back and play another show soon.
Sincerely,
Jim Wilkinson and our entire staff at Cheers.

Miss Monster 2009

I want to thank everyone who came out to see me at my LAST Miss Monster. I have the most awesome life. I have so many friends. When I walked out on that stage I had a white light experience and realized just how I have it. I cannot thank ya’ll enough, and thanks to the monsters for inviting me. I will be gigging around town, so check back to BURTWILSON.COM or thepokerdogs.net . Sweetness and I are staying in Orlando at least for now and give it a bit playing gigs and hope that something works out. I am a rich man with all the friends a man could want. Come see me at Johnny’s and throw money at me.
Love,
Bubba
Look Out Hannah! Here comes Burt.

Hey Bubby,
I’m so glad that you are well, and that you got your music out. I drive my girls ( 5 & 7 yrs. old ) to school every morning and the always request wild azaleas. I love to watch them in the mirror as they sing low every word even the foreign ones. Thanks for all the laughs and music. You may think it's disposal comedy but I have tons of Chief and Snuggy on MP 3.
Thanks Bubba

Letter from Sam Broussard

this is good to post..It's from the guy who co-wrote "Wildfire" with Micheal Murphy in the late 70's.He is one of the nations very best songwriters. His name is Sam Broussard and he lives in Lafayette Louisiana and is now playing guitar for the "Mamou Playboys." They are a super popular band and they travel all over the globe playing Cajun/Zydeco. He and I worked together in the 80's and we recently got reconnected. he wrote this letter about my Cd "Everett" and i am gonna have it framed and put on the wall right next to my letter from Mac McAnnaly!
damn burt,
i had gotten to peach moon and thought that's my favorite,
then thought the same thing about atchafalaya light then drunk at
denny's ...
you're one of those artists who sounds exactly like your
personality. anybody wants to know about burt, well, there he is on
the record, everything you need to know. he loves land and family
and don't say normal things about stuff. he fell down a few times
in his food, but up to that point he pays attention if you're
talking. you're just like that video on your site of you in your
drawers. "yeah, well, this is me, duh." it's amazing that anyone can
fall for the bubba routine because you have "hey! i'm burt wilson"
tatooed on your forehead. how strange, because you make a living
being someone else, but it's amazing that you can even be someone
else for ten minutes.
you sing like a frickin angel, and if i can get you to do a
frickin beach boys choir on one of my songs i am gon do that
somehow. maybe you should just sing all the lead too.
you have a love for a vanishing aspect of music, the Chord Change,
or Harmony. none of the current crop of nitwits (and nincompoops)
seem to know what it is, much less what it's good for. it's good
for gettn girls to wet their pants in a good way, that's what it's
good for, and they don't even know what caused all that humidity up
in their drawers.
you don't sound like mcCartney but you have a similar effect. of
course we both know he wanted to write curvaceous woman while he was
married to that dead woman with the rack of ribs, but he didn't.
hey, i gotta admit that i haven't been in the car long enough to
hear ... i have yet to hear rollin' and balcony lady (heard florida
boy on your site; you should be a millionaire but of course you're
not) but it reminds me of a french expression for a top-heavy woman,
"elle a tout le monde au balcon," she has everyone in the balcony.
"tout le mond" literally means "all the world" which is the french
word(s) for "everybody."
(now, i know bubba will want to say that on the radio to
demonstrate his sophistication, so here's how you pronounce it:
Ella too le mond oh balcon - but you stop just shy of pronouncing the
n in balcon, and mond is like james Bond. Wait ... bubba wouldn't
pronounce it correctly.
nevermind)
i must admit that i still drink, but i never get drunk (it feels
bad) and lately bloodwork has deduced that my triglycerides are at a
level that discourages even normal indulgence. but i am aware that
a lot of those songs of yours were written when you were in that
dastardly phase of what is erroneously called "your" life. (that's
right folks, "my life" is an oxymoron.)
the next time you make a record, you should heed my advice (no
one does, so neither should you) and use minimal production. i
realize it's often necessary so there's something else to focus on,
and you need solos and etcetera. so many of those songs would have
been killer with just your guitar, the same way the title cut is fine
with just your voices and everett. the other guitars n' stuff are
fine, but not a decidedly marked improvement did they make beyond
what thou hast already done did. i understand the need for
percussion and other stuff, but if you're just trying to make
something full, well, neither of us is phil spector, and he's
shithouse bananas crazy.
ignore me.
burt, that's a damn good record. of all the good things i can say
about it, the best is this: it has the character of someone i would
want to know.

Southern Girl replacing wedding march?

It really amazes me to get letters like this. i am so proud of the fact that someone would include one of my songs in an event that is so personal. i wanted to post this letter because ,as a song writer, it doesn't get much better than this. I think when you actually make a strong emotional impact on people with your words and music,it makes the struggle worth while. i would rather this than a Grammy any day.
Hey Bubba, my wife and i met you saturday night at Chyenne Saloon and i just wanted to tell you that your song "southern girl" reminded me so much of my wife that we played it at our wedding this past october. we would have loved to have the real deal there playing it for us but that would have been impossible. hopefully when we renew our vows there will still be a way that song can be played. i just want to thank you again. thank you.
good luck and god bless,
Allen and Kellie

Burt and Jeff and Dogs Playing Poker
Want to see Burt’s new band?? Burt and Jeff and Dogs Playing Poker will be at the Cheyenne Salon around 9:30 on 2/14. on 2/20, on 3/6 and on 3/20.
Bell bottom Burt

Here's a pic of me from 1974. An old girlfriend, Ginger Brown, sent it to me. We were out at my favorite place in the world..The Mississippi River Levee at Baton Rouge. I just always loved it out there. It's also amazing to me how SKINNY i was here. I look an awful lot like my son Josh. LOL I was in LSU Music school at this time and my band CLUTCH was about 2 years old. I am surprised i don't have Dippity-Do hair gel still in my hair from the night before. I left college about a year after this for life on the road. I would like to go back to school and get my degree in music.
Brian Young email

Hey Bubba - Good to hear back from you man! The thing I really dug about the disc was it's honesty. It wasn't forced or 'trying too hard'. Real natural, it's great. Keep me informed on what you're up to and if ever you need a guest on a future recording let me know. Cheers. Bri
Letter from a fan

Bubba, i bought your cd at raglan road the other night, I'm a 25 year old hard working man. i cried like a 4 year old kid after listening to the cd... amazing job sir... every song is awesome.. the comedy stuff is great, makes me laugh, but that's easy to do. i thank you for putting so much in to this collection of songs.. you rock
You can call me...Bubba??

I am in FL visiting my brother and he played the song Everett for me off your Drunken Piano cd and I really like the song!
For some reason it remided me a bit of Paul Simons Still Crazy After All These Years.
Anyway he said I should email you since I liked the song so much, so I just wanted to congrtatulate you on your success after waiting over 20 years and all your problems and everything. That song I find to be very emotional and I'm sure you put that emotion into your music so I think that is awesome..
Keep up the good work and your passionate song writing & singing :)

Letter from a Marine

Hey Bubba; I'm a 31 year old Marine Corp Veteran, and have seen and done some tough things. Even lost some close friends, delt with an alcoholic, drug addicted father, ect... Through it all, I seem to be able to keep my composure when I think of those sad times. However, every time I hear the "Everet The Drunken Piano" song, I can't help but cry. It reminds me that I, We, are all human. Thank you for such a beautiful composure. God Bless you and the Monsters!
Your Friend;
Jason.
Raglan Road Friday

I will be at Raglan Road at Pleasure Island this Friday from 4:30pm till for the half-way to Saint Patty's Day celebration..I will get up and do the Beer song with my favorite Irish band Tuskar Rock! It's happening all week. but I will only be there on Friday..
Come experience why Sweetness and i love IRELAND so much AND Raglan Road is the very best place to party and eat.. We go twice a month. Some of the guys in the band Tuskar Rock played on my Everett CD..they are the very best musicians in this town, in my opinion.
So see you at Raglan road this Friday for the half way to saint Patty's day bash!
Dear Daughter

Letter from a fan

I had wanted to do a whole CD about getting sober..every song about a different aspect of getting sober.. then i said "nah" that would be too hard.then I forgot about. Now when I listen to it,, it seems that is just what I did..
Here’s an email I received:
Bubby Whoop,
I recently downloaded your cd from itunes, and I have never been happier to have spent some money. Your songs are amazing and heartrending. I am a father of two. One little girl, three years old and my son, who is twenty. I like to tell people I have two kids, one who thinks I know everything and one who thinks he knows everything and that they are BOTH WRONG!!! Listening to Dear Daughter brought me to tears. I am also inspired by your fight with addiction, October 1st, I will have been clean for 18 months and your song Everett is one all recovering addicts should hear. Thank you for always making me laugh, and thank you for sometimes making me cry. Respectfully, Jonathan Calcutt

I LOVE THE UK!

I FRICKIN LOVE THE UK!! I WANT TO GO PLAY THERE AND HAVE SOME JAM BUTTIES!
I got a great letter from the UK, and I thought I would post it. I had no idea my songs are available on iTunes UK!!That kicks ass! Somehow I find that the English get my songs and melodies much faster than America. Over here it's a slow burn..they want more Pyro!! BUT I had know idea I had so many fans of my serious music in the UK. I am overwhelmed and very happy about that. They are getting it over iTunes..so I want all my UK fans to know I am available.
In other news, soon i will have some of my comedy up on burtwilson.com. I am going to re-record and do some of my funny songs up properly and make it funny, WITH good music. We will have to see.. my serious music and my comedy DO NOT get along..I may ruin them both by combining them. It seems to be only certain ones that work.. but.. I'm gonna do it anyway.
Thanks to everyone for checking here at burtwilson.com. I will have some live chatting going on here after i get back from the MONSTER cruise. I will be taking requests and playing some new songs I am working on. I would Love to get some folks from the UK in on that!!
Please write me anytime..I write everybody back........maybe.
Love,
Burt BUBBA Wilson
Hi Bubba
Just downloaded your album from iTunes and thought I would drop you an
email to say how much I enjoyed it. Each song is full of emotion.
There was not a single song I didn't enjoy.
As a side note, I dont know if you were aware that the album is
available on the UK iTunes store? It would be worth letting all of the
fans of the show from the UK know as I am sure there are loads of
people like me who wanted the CD but had no way to get it (or so I
thought until I found it).
Once again, thank you for the amazing songs.
Love the Monsters

My Wild Azalia

Here is a picture of my daughter Ashlee, she is my oldest and I wrote "Wild Azalia's" about her and my other daughter Haylee . In the song I said that "On Bayou Borbeaux, another wild Azalia grows and on and on it goes" I was projecting when I wrote it. then i found out, she was pregs!!
Ashlee is a french teacher at a little school in Louisiana. She is also one of the few teachers still teaching cajun french , and was written up in a local paper. She lives outside of Lafayette, Louisiana with her grammy nominated Husband who leads a great band called the Lost Bayou Ramblers.

My Great grandparents

Great old picture of my GREAT GRANDPARENTS on my grandpa's side. That's his mother Cissy and the old gentlemen is Maurice "TUG" Wilson the Famous Mississippi tug boat captain. That's funny, I call myself PULL Wilson because of my great ability arm wrestling and in the game of tug O War.
TUG? PULL? same thing right? I wonder if I got it from him?. Anyway, this is the side of the family I got my music ability from. There son Lee, my grandpa, bought me my first electronic piano in '75. It was a Werlitzer He use to come see me in Clutch, my greaser band, and say 'Play the damn Piano son and stop the spitting!! Burt
Henry Flake

This is my old high school songwriting buddy Henry Flake. His family was instrumental in my early musical development. His mom taught me boogie woogie piano. Henry and I shared the same taste in music and comedy. Henry and I had not seen each other in 35 years. We hooked up in Pensacola this past June. It was awesome.
What a weekend
We’re workin on getting some pictures and video up here too…but I’m not sure everyone who was taking pictures and video is awake and sober enough yet to get them on a damn computer! (The fans did me proud by slammin the bars, bartenders, and waitresses of Cheyenne Saloon so hard I was afraid they wouldn’t know whether to scratch their watch or wind their ass! But the Saloon kept up with everyone like a champ, and the service was just awesome! I gotta thank everyone there at the Cheyenne Saloon for not only giving me such a beautiful place to premier my CD, but for giving all the fans star treatment too!
The band?? The band was BADASS! Daniel Dennis on drums, Mike Simms on bass, an amazing classical violinist Heather, Richard “The Mayor” and Dave. I was even lucky enough to get my Irish buddy from Raglan Road’s band Tuscar Rock, Shane McGowan (“Alien Hand” who played so fantastically on the CD), to sit in for a few tunes! I couldn’t have asked for more!
Everyone who came out to show their love and support…The Monsters, Monster Militia, the fans, my family and friends, Katherine Brown, Jeff Howell, SBK, Angel, Tony Rage, a 3-day-out-of-leg-surgery Chris Kirkpatrick…even the man himself, Bob Snow…and WAY more people than there is space on this whole damn blog…I can’t tell you all how much it means to me and how much I appreciate you all. I will NEVER forget that wonderful night!!! (Also a BIG thank you to Tuddle, Paul, and Tony, and everyone else who helped us pack up and clear off of Church Street before they got a chance to put a boot on my car!)
Of course, the whole night wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the backing (emotional and financial) of Mike and Michele Hekkle, with Design Pros. You have been angels in my life, absolutely!!! That night was for you just as much as it was for me!!
If you couldn’t make it out there, I’m hoping to soon get out around town to do some more gigs with the new songs! I really hope to see all of you!
In the mean time, write and let me know what you think about the CD! Maybe I can talk my website Guru into postin some of the comments! (Only the GOOD ones, of course!)
Thanks again y’all!! Enjoy the CD…and keep tunin in to the Monsters!
Burt “Bubba” Wilson
